History: | According to a 1989 letter from Edward H. Roberts and an enclosed 1937 newspaper article, Elizabeth Mountain is named for Mary Elizabeth Jones Goodman (1876-1937). According to Roberts, the mountain was so named when government surveyors used strands of the girl's hair to repair their transit. The 1901 U.S. Geological Survey Hayden Peak 30' quadrangle shows the name Elizabeth Mountain. (US-T131/8-10-89/letter from Edward H. Roberts) |
