History: | Kodachrome Flat was named by members of a 1948 National Geographic Society expedition to southern Utah, in recognition of the new Kodak film. The State of Utah renamed it Kodachrome Basin after the area became a state park in 1962; however, the name Kodachrome Flat remains official for Federal use. Prior to the designation of the area as a State Park, it was known informally as Thorley's Pasture for a rancher named Tom Thorley who ran cattle in the basin. |
